It’s 1 o’clock and my baby has been fussing since 7:30 this morning, which means I am ready to put my head through a wall. Some days I feel like I’m not cut out for this mom business, especially when I’m running on little sleep and depleting patience. Both of my girls have had fevers for a few days and now are on to the snotty cough stage of colds. It’s not their fault they’re miserable and it’s not mine either. However, when anxiety gets the best of me and my children won’t stop crying, I feel like I’m failing. Ever been there?
It also doesn’t help when other moms throw comments in my face such as, “Do you give them Tylenol or let their bodies fight it out?” “My children never fussed this much,” or, “it’s your fault why your children cry a lot.” Now I’m failing and being judged too, awesome!
Right now my mantra is deep breathing and reminding myself that I can do all things through Christ my strength (Philip 4:13). God’s grace is sufficient for us and His strength is made perfect in weakness (2 Cor 12:9). Paul brags about how through his weakness, Christ’s power rested upon him. Whether our weakness be fear, anger or gossip, these weaknesses show our need for Christ.
I have battled with anxiety for more than 10 years. Yes I have prayed and believed for God to heal me, but so far He hasn’t. I’ve embraced this thorn in my side and work through it, relying on God’s strength to help me each day, just like Paul. When we are weak, Christ is strong.
Readings:
2 Corinthians 12: 5 – 10
Philippians 4:13
