Most women have a pair or two of bigger pants they pull out on occasion. Some remain folded in the closet for use after the holidays. For me, I bloat so much before my period that I need my fat pants on a monthly basis. Can you relate?
This week I busted out my size 8, 36 inch Motos. I slipped my legs into the jeans and was horrified. They didn’t even cover my butt, never mind trying to zip the front over my mommy pouch. After I collapsed onto my bed, hyperventilating, I pulled it together and tossed them in the pile for Bibles for Missions.
To further my torment, I weighed myself at the gym today. Since December I’ve been jogging, cycling and weightlifting. It feels great to build muscle and increase strength, however when the scale spitted out a number seven pounds more than my original weight, my heart dropped. Logic tells me muscle weighs more than fat, but I was still upset.
Why do we beat ourselves up with clothing sizes and numbers? If I feel I look good, should the scale reading matter? I know moms who refuse to purchase clothes if the size is above a small. I’ve had friends apologize to me because they didn’t have time to put makeup on before our coffee dates. I’d accept the apology if they looked like the grim reaper, but honestly my friends are beautiful with or without mascara. Make-up is to enhance beauty, not conceal ugly.
Ladies, let’s stop being so hard on ourselves! The greatest commandment in the Bible is to love God. Secondly, we are to love others like we love ourselves (Matthew 22:39). We first must love ourselves before we can truly love others. This includes our inside selves and outer wobbly bits.
